Mobile app

The Roofing Boss app for iPhone and Android. Install it, sign in, find your way around, and know where your changes are saved.

The Roofing Boss app is roofingBoss for the field. Look up a job or a customer, call them or get directions, move a job along, schedule the crew, take photos, log a note, and check off your tasks. It uses the same account and the same JobNimbus data as the dashboard.

The app is for Blue Sky staff. A customer who signs in sees their customer portal instead, with Overview, Projects, Invoices, and Account tabs.

Install the app

The app isn't in the App Store or Google Play yet. Ask an admin to set you up.

  • iPhone: an admin adds you as a tester. Install Apple's TestFlight app, then install Roofing Boss from it.
  • Android: ask an admin for the install link.

Small fixes download on their own and take effect the next time you open the app. Bigger updates arrive as a new version to install.

Use the same account you use for the dashboard. Accounts are set up by your company and the app has no sign-up of its own, so if you've never used roofingBoss, sign in to the dashboard first.

To sign in with Google:

  1. Open the app.
  2. Tap Continue with work Google account.
  3. Pick your Blue Sky Google account.

To sign in with an emailed code:

  1. Tap Continue with email.
  2. Enter your Work email and tap Send sign-in code.
  3. Enter the 6-digit code from the email and tap Verify and sign in.

Typed the wrong address? Tap Use a different email. Closed the Google window too soon? Tap Continue with work Google account again. If the app says "Roofing Boss accounts are set up by your company", roofingBoss has no account for that Google account or email. Check the address, or ask an admin to set you up.

Privacy policy and Support under the sign-in buttons open those pages in your browser. You stay signed in until you sign out on the Account screen.

Sign in with a password

Staff normally use Google or an emailed code. If your account has a password:

  1. Tap Continue with email, enter your Work email, and tap Use password.
  2. Enter the password and tap Sign in. The eye button shows or hides it.

If it says "That password isn't right", try again or tap Email me a code instead.

Enter a second code

After a password on a new phone, or for an account with two-step verification, the app asks for one more code. The line above the box says where to find it, such as "This is a new device, so we emailed a code to … to confirm it's you." or "Enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app."

  1. Enter the code and tap Verify and sign in.

Send a new code sends another one, Use a backup code lets you enter one of your backup codes instead, and Start over goes back to the email step.

Open the app without a connection

The app needs a connection to sign you in and to check your account when it starts. Without one:

  • Signed out: the sign-in screen still opens, and signing in says "Can't reach Roofing Boss. Check your connection and try again."
  • Signed in: you stay signed in, and Can't reach Roofing Boss shows in place of the tabs.
  • A connection that never answers: after about 12 seconds the start screen gives way to Can't reach Roofing Boss.

Tap Try again once you have a signal.

Get past "Your account isn't set up yet"

After you sign in, the app shows Connecting to Roofing Boss… while it checks that your account is linked to your JobNimbus user. Most people are linked automatically the first time, because their email matches a JobNimbus user.

If no JobNimbus user matches, you see Your account isn't set up yet with the email you signed in with, and the tabs stay hidden.

  1. Ask an admin to link your account. Admins can do it in the app under More → Access control (see Admin tools) or in the dashboard under Access control.
  2. Tap Check again.

An admin who isn't linked can't reach More, so the screen tells them to link their own account in the dashboard's Access control. To try a different account, tap Sign out. Delete account is here too (see Delete your account). If you're impersonating someone who isn't linked, tap Revert to original user to get back to your own account.

Three other screens can show instead of the tabs:

ScreenWhat it meansWhat to do
Can't reach Roofing BossThe phone has no connection.Tap Try again once you have a signal.
Your session has endedroofingBoss no longer accepts your sign-in.Tap Sign in again to go back to the sign-in screen.
Roofing Boss isn't respondingroofingBoss couldn't load your account.Tap Try again in a minute. If it keeps happening, contact support.

All four screens have Privacy policy and Support links.

Find your way around

Five tabs run along the bottom of the screen.

TabWhat it's for
JobsSearch and filter every job, see them as a list or a board, and open one to work on it.
Work OrdersWork orders as a list, a board, or an agenda of scheduled work.
ScheduleYour calendar and your teammates': Google Calendar events plus dated tasks, jobs, and work orders.
TasksYour tasks, grouped by when they're due.
MoreEverything else, grouped into sections.

More holds the rest of the app:

Your name at the bottom of More opens Account. Targets, Team, Property inspections, and Homeowner requests only show for Blue Sky staff, and Access control only for admins.

A few things work the same everywhere:

  • Search is the magnifying glass at the top right. It searches every kind of record at once. See Dashboard and search.
  • New is the + at the top right of a list.
  • Tap the tab again to scroll back to the top of its list.
  • Step through a list. When you open a record from a list, the arrows at the top move to the previous or next record in that list.

Keep lists up to date

Lists (jobs, work orders, tasks, contacts, estimates, invoices, payments, products, activities, and files) come from a copy saved on the phone, so search is instant and still works with a weak signal. The first time you open a list, the app loads it from JobNimbus, which takes a few seconds.

The bar at the bottom of a list shows the count and when it was loaded, for example "1,204 jobs · updated 5 minutes ago". The copy is reloaded after an hour. To pick up a change from the last hour, such as a job the office just created:

  • Pull down on the list.
  • Tap the refresh icon in the bottom bar.
  • On Account, tap Refresh cached data to reload every list.

If the bar says partial, the app couldn't load every record. Refresh to try again. If a refresh fails, the list says "Couldn't refresh" and keeps showing the saved copy. Tap Retry.

Changes you make in the app show in your lists right away. A record you open is always loaded fresh from JobNimbus, so pull down on it to reload.

Know where changes are saved

  • Saved to JobNimbus: changes to jobs, contacts, work orders, tasks, estimates, and payments, notes and other activity, photos, status moves, and deletes. They show up in the dashboard and in JobNimbus right away.
  • Saved in roofingBoss only: saved lists and pins, templates, work blocks, share links, photo links, and roof inspections.
  • Saved to Google Calendar: events you add or move on Schedule, and appointments booked in Scheduler.
  • Saved on this phone only: each list's filters, sort, and layout, your Schedule people and layers, recent searches, and Appearance.

Settings screens are read-only in the app. The app calls JobNimbus "your CRM", so Open in CRM on a job, contact, work order, task, estimate, or invoice opens it in JobNimbus, for anything the app can't do yet.

Allow the camera and photos

The app asks to use your camera and photo library the first time you add photos to a record or change your profile photo. If you said no, the error message has a Settings button that opens your phone's settings for the app. The app doesn't use your location or your contacts. Fleet shows the GPS trackers in the trucks, not your phone.

Use dark mode

  1. Open More and tap your name.
  2. Under Appearance, pick System, Light, or Dark.

System follows your phone's light or dark setting. The choice is saved on this phone.
