Access control
Link each person to their JobNimbus user, choose admins, check sign-ins and last use, and impersonate a teammate.
Access Control decides who can see JobNimbus data in roofingBoss. Open it from Sidebar → Settings → Access Control. Only admins can use it. Everyone else sees Admin access required.
Roles and links are saved in roofingBoss only. JobNimbus never sees them.
How access works
- Everyone signs in with their own account. See Sign in.
- Each person needs a link to a JobNimbus user. At sign-in, roofingBoss tries to link you automatically by matching your email to a JobNimbus user.
- With a link, what you see follows that JobNimbus user's permissions. Edits you save to JobNimbus are made as that user.
- Without a link, the person is Blocked (unlinked) and data pages don't load until an admin links them. People can also link themselves on their Account page, but only to the JobNimbus user whose email matches one of their verified email addresses.
- People whose email doesn't match a JobNimbus user and who aren't linked or admins, such as customers, land in the customer portal instead of the dashboard.
Read the user table
User Permissions lists everyone with a roofingBoss account. The columns are:
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| User | Name and email |
| Role | Admin or User. Your own row shows You and can't be changed. |
| JobNimbus Link | The linked JobNimbus user and their email, or Not linked |
| Access | Linked actor or Blocked (unlinked) |
| Last Sign In | How long ago the person last signed in, such as 3d ago, or Never. Hover for the exact date and time. |
| Last Seen | When they last used roofingBoss on the web or the phone app, with their status dot: Active now, how long ago, or Not yet. Hover for details. A dash means they aren't tracked, because only admins and linked users are. See Team. |
| Google OAuth | Connected or Not connected. Hover Connected to see what the person allowed. |
| Calendar Scope | Granted when the person allowed Google Calendar access, Not granted when they didn't |
Link someone to JobNimbus
- Find the person's row.
- Open the JobNimbus Link menu.
- Pick their JobNimbus user. Only active JobNimbus users are listed.
The change saves right away and Access turns to Linked actor.
To remove a link, click Unlink in the Actions column, then Unlink again to confirm. The person loses data access until they're linked again.
Make someone an admin
- Find the person's row.
- Set Role to Admin.
Set it back to User to remove admin rights. You can't change your own role, so another admin has to do it.
Super admins
A super admin is an admin who can also impersonate other admins. Their row shows Super admin under Role, and only another super admin can change a super admin's role or JobNimbus link.
You can't make someone a super admin in Access Control. Ask roofingBoss support.
Impersonate a user
Impersonating lets you see roofingBoss exactly as a teammate sees it, which helps when someone reports missing jobs or a screen that looks wrong. Only admins see Impersonate user. Only a super admin can impersonate another admin. If you aren't one, other admins appear greyed out under Super admin only at the bottom of the list.
- Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar.
- Point to Impersonate user.
- Pick the person from the Select Clerk user list.
The page reloads signed in as that person. An amber banner across the top reads Impersonating followed by their name.
While you impersonate someone, everything you do is done as that person, including edits that save to JobNimbus. Look, but don't change records unless you mean to.
Switch back to yourself
Do either of these:
- Click Revert in the amber banner.
- Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then Revert to original user.
The page reloads as you. An impersonation session also ends on its own after an hour.
