Find your way around

The sidebar, global search, keyboard shortcuts, light and dark mode, and the Change Log.

Every dashboard page has the same frame: the sidebar on the left and a bar across the top. The top bar shows where you are (such as Home › Jobs), the Feedback button, the Search... box, the help button, and the light/dark button. Use Feedback to report a problem or ask for a feature. See Send feedback.

Use the sidebar

The sidebar has two groups:

  • Main: Dashboard, Team, Jobs, Contacts, Tasks, and Scheduler at the top, then menus that hold the rest of the pages.
  • Settings: every settings page. See Settings.
MenuPages
EstimatingEstimates, Products
OperationsWork Orders, Material Orders, Fleet, Map
FinancialsInvoices, Payments, Budgets, Commissions

Click a page's name to open it. Click a menu's name (Estimating, Operations, Financials, Records) to show or hide its pages. Jobs, Contacts, Scheduler, Analytics, and Settings are pages with sub-pages: click the name to open the page, or the arrow next to it to show or hide the sub-pages.

The menu or section you're in opens on its own. Once you open or close one yourself, roofingBoss remembers that in your browser.

An amber number on Targets counts the sales items that need attention: your own if you're on the sales team, or the whole team's for an admin who isn't. It's hidden when there are none.

Your name and email sit at the bottom. Click them for Manage account, Help & docs (opens this guide), Change Log, Impersonate user (admins only, see Access control), and Sign out.

Hide the sidebar

Click the panel button at the left end of the top bar, or press Ctrl + B (⌘ + B on a Mac). The sidebar slides away and the page uses the full width. Do the same to bring it back.

roofingBoss remembers this in your browser, so a hidden sidebar stays hidden after a reload. On a phone, the same button opens the sidebar as a menu, and picking a page closes it.

Get help

Click the ? button in the top bar to open this guide in a new tab. It opens the page for the screen you're on, so ? on Work Orders opens the work orders guide. Screens without their own page open the guide's home.

Help & docs in the menu under your name opens the guide's home.

Search everything

Global search finds any job, contact, estimate, invoice, work order, task, product, activity, file, or material order from any page.

  1. Click Search... in the top bar, or press Ctrl + K (⌘ + K on a Mac). / also opens it when you aren't typing in a box.
  2. Type part of a name, number, address, email, or phone number.
  3. To see one kind of record, click its chip: All, Jobs, Contacts, Estimates, Invoices, Work Orders, Tasks, Products, Activities, Files, or Material Orders. Each chip shows how many matches it has, or how many records it holds before you type.
  4. Click a result, or move to it with the arrow keys and press Enter.

Each type shows its first 8 matches. Type more of the name to narrow them down.

You pick a…It opens
Job, work order, or taskThat record's details right away
Contact, estimate, invoice, product, activity, or fileIts list page, already searched for that record

A few things to know:

  • Jobs match on name, number, type, status, address, and sales rep. Contacts match on name, company, email, phone numbers, city, state, and ZIP.
  • Activities covers notes people wrote in the last 365 days. Automatic entries such as status changes are left out.
  • Files covers the last 90 days.
  • The first time you open search in a session, it takes a few seconds and shows Loading search index.... After that it opens instantly. The line under the chips shows how many records are loaded and when.

Search keeps a copy of records in your browser for up to an hour. Something added straight in JobNimbus can take that long to appear. On Contacts, Activities, and Files, click Refresh in the "Showing cached…" bar to load the latest right away.

See what's new

Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then Change Log. It lists every update to roofingBoss, newest first and grouped by day, 100 updates to a page. Total Commits counts every update so far; Features, Fixes, and Merged PRs count the ones on the page you're looking at.

  • Click Older to go further back, and Newer to come forward again. The line under the heading says which updates you're seeing.
  • Use the tabs (All, Features, Fixes, PRs, Chores) to show one kind of change on the current page.
  • Click Show details on an entry to read the full note.

Check it after an update to see what changed and what to try.

If an amber bar says "Impersonating"

An amber bar across the top that reads Impersonating and a person's name means this session is seeing roofingBoss as that person. Everything you do, including edits saved to JobNimbus, is done as them. Click Revert to go back to yourself. Only admins can impersonate. See Access control.
