Project spotlights

Write project case studies, choose what shows in the homepage slider, credit the people on the job, and manage roof manufacturers.

Project spotlights are case studies of finished roofs. Each one has its own page, is listed on the Projects page at www.roofingboss.ai/projects, and can appear in the homepage slider. You write them in the Studio under Project spotlights. Anyone invited to the Studio can edit them.

Where spotlights appear

  • Homepage slider: the section headed Project spotlights and Special projects. Each slide is the project's cover photo with its Slider label and Place line. Clicking a photo opens it larger, with the short description and Learn more about this project. See all project spotlights opens the Projects page.
  • Projects page: every project that's shown on the site, in order, each with Review the details. After the list come the Certified by row from Certifications and the Start with your address box, where a visitor can start a quote.
  • Project page: a breadcrumb trail at the top (Home, Projects, then the project's title), the title, short description, location and product, manufacturer links, the cover photo, the specifications, the people on the job, the story, the gallery, and the SEO tags as topic labels. It ends with a Get a quote button.

Project spotlights and roof manufacturers save live, with no Publish step. A new project starts hidden, with Show on the website off. Turn it on when the project is ready.

Add a project

  1. Select Project spotlights.
  2. Click the create button (pencil icon) at the top of the list.
  3. Fill in the Story, Photos, and SEO tabs. The project stays hidden while you write, because Show on the website starts off. You can still preview it in Presentation.
  4. On the Story tab, turn on Show on the website when the project is ready.

Story tab:

FieldWhat it does
Project titleThe headline, written the way someone would search, such as "Brava Spanish-style roof replacement in Snell Isle, St. Petersburg". Required.
SlugThe page's web address. Click Generate to make it from the title.
Slider labelThe short chip on the homepage photo, such as "Brava Spanish tile". Required.
Place lineThe line under the photo, such as "Snell Isle waterfront estate". Required.
Short descriptionOne or two sentences for the photo popup, the Projects page, and search results. Required. Keep it under 160 characters.
ProductThe system installed, such as "1 3/4-inch aluminum standing seam".
ManufacturerWho made the product. Pick one from Roof manufacturers.
LocationNeighborhood, City, and County. These are what people search for.
SpecificationsShort facts shown as rows, each a Label and a Detail, such as Underlayment / High-temp peel-and-stick.
People on this jobOptional. See Credit the people on the job.
Project storyThe write-up: the product, the place, and what was installed.
Show on the websiteOff hides the project everywhere on the site. New projects start with it off.
Show in the homepage sliderOff keeps the project on the Projects page but out of the homepage slider.
OrderLower numbers come first in the slider and on the Projects page. Leave it blank to put the project at the end.

Photos tab:

  • Cover photo (required): the slider photo and the photo at the top of the project page. Set the hotspot so the roof stays in frame.
  • Before, after, and detail photos: extra photos for the project page. For each one, add Alt text, an optional Caption, and choose Which photo this is: Before, After, or Detail. Don't repeat the cover photo here. When any photo is marked Before, the gallery is headed "Before and after". With more than four photos, click Show all N items to see and reorder them all. Reorder them here, in the form: in Presentation a photo can be clicked but not dragged.

SEO tab: SEO tags are phrases the project should be found for, such as Brava, Snell Isle, or standing seam. Press Enter after each one. The title and description overrides and Do Not Index This Page work as described in Sanity Studio.

Preview a hidden project

A project with Show on the website off still opens in the Studio's Presentation tool, in the real page layout, so you can finish it before anyone else sees it.

  1. Fill in the required fields: Project title, Slug, Slider label, Place line, Short description, and Cover photo with its Alt Text. The page can't show until all of them are there.
  2. Click Presentation at the top of the Studio and go to the project's page, or pick the page in the bar at the top of the project's form.
  3. Check the notice at the top of the page. Its Hidden from the site pill means only you can see the page. Your edits show in the frame as you make them, and clicking the cover or a gallery photo opens that photo in the form.

Visitors who go to that address still see "We couldn't find that page", search engines are asked not to list it, and the project stays off the Projects page and the homepage slider. Turn on Show on the website to publish it.

Credit the people on the job

People on this job is optional. Leave it empty and the project page doesn't mention a team. The homepage slider never shows names.

For each person, add their Name, pick a Role, and optionally fill in What they did on this job. The roles are Customer success, Project consultant, Quality control manager, Project manager, and Crew leader. When What they did on this job is blank, the page uses a standard line for the role. Named people appear on the project page under The people on this job.

Hide or reorder projects

  • To hide a project, turn off Show on the website. Visitors get "We couldn't find that page" at its address, and the Studio list and Presentation both say "Hidden from the site". Presentation still shows the page to you.
  • To keep it off the homepage only, turn off Show in the homepage slider. The Studio list shows "Not in homepage slider" under its name.
  • To change the order, give projects Order numbers, such as 10, 20, and 30, so you can slot one in between later.

The site shows only the Studio's projects. Hiding or deleting them all leaves the slider and the Projects page empty. If the website can't reach the Studio for a while, the Projects page and each project page keep the version from their last successful update, so a hidden project stays hidden. The homepage slider may disappear until the Studio is back.

Manage roof manufacturers

Select Roof manufacturers to add or edit the companies whose products appear in spotlights, such as Brava, Gulf Coast Supplies, or GAF.
