Templates
Save a reusable set of line items, sections, and notes, then start new estimates and work orders from it.
A template is a saved set of line items, with optional sections and default notes. Apply one when you create an estimate or work order and the form fills in for you. You still review the form and click create as usual.
Templates are saved in roofingBoss only. JobNimbus never sees them, only the estimates and work orders you create from them. Every staff member sees the same templates, and anyone can edit or delete them.
Where templates live
Estimates and work orders each have their own list of templates.
| Templates for | Manage them from | Apply them in |
|---|---|---|
| Estimates | Sidebar → Estimating → Estimates → Templates | Create New Estimate (Create an estimate) and Create New Invoice (Create an invoice) |
| Work orders | Sidebar → Operations → Work Orders → Templates | Create New Work Order (Work orders) |
On a phone, the Templates button shows only its icon.
Templates opens Estimate Templates or Work Order Templates. Each template shows its name, description, item count, total, and the date it was last updated.
Create a template
- Click Templates, then New Template.
- Enter a Template Name *, such as "Standard Re-roof".
- Optional: add a Description so teammates pick the right one.
- Optional: add sections (see below).
- Add line items. For each one:
- Optional: under Attach product (optional), click Search products... and pick a catalog product. Its name, price, cost, and unit fill in. A labor product fills in its labor price. A template line holds one price, so a labor + material product fills in only its material price and cost.
- Check or type the Name *.
- Set Qty, Price, Cost, UOM, and Type (Material or Labor).
- Click Add Item for more lines. Click the trash icon to remove one.
- Optional: fill in Default Internal Note. Work-order templates also have Default Customer Note, which the customer can see.
- Click Create Template.
A template needs a name and at least one line item with a name. Lines with no name are dropped when you save.
Items without a product
You don't have to attach a catalog product. Type a name and prices for a general item, such as "Permit fee" or "Dump run". Attaching a product is quicker when one exists, because its price, cost, and unit fill in.
For estimate templates, attach a product to each line. JobNimbus can refuse estimate lines that aren't linked to a catalog product. Work orders accept general items.
Sections
Sections group line items under headings such as Materials and Labor, and they carry over to the estimate or work order in JobNimbus.
- Click Add Section and type its name.
- Check Show total to show a subtotal for that section.
- In each line item, choose its Section, or leave it on No section.
Items without a section come first. Sections with no name aren't saved.
Apply a template
- Open Create New Estimate or Create New Work Order.
- Find the Templates box. It's at the top of the estimate form. In the work-order form, click Add schedule, team, and pricing first.
- Click Start from a template… and pick a template. Each choice shows how many items it has.
- Review the form, then fill in the job and the rest of the details.
- Create the estimate or work order as usual.
Applying a template replaces the line items and sections already in the form. It also fills the internal note (and, for work orders, the customer note) when the template has one. You can edit anything before you create.
Templates keep the prices they were saved with. If catalog prices have changed since, update the lines in the form or edit the template.
If the box says No templates yet, create one first.
Save the form as a template
You can turn line items you've already entered into a template.
- In Create New Estimate or Create New Work Order, add your line items.
- In the Templates box, click Save as template. It's grayed out until at least one line item has a name.
- The New … Template form opens with your line items, sections, and notes. Give it a Template Name * and adjust anything.
- Click Create Template.
Your estimate or work order form stays as it was, so you can finish creating it.
Edit or delete a template
- Click Templates.
- Click the pencil icon to edit a template. Make your changes and click Save Changes.
- To delete one, click the trash icon, then Delete.
Deleting a template removes it for everyone and can't be undone. Estimates and work orders already created from it don't change.
