Estimates

Create an estimate

Build a new JobNimbus estimate from the Estimates page, with catalog products, sections, and a target margin.

Create an estimate from Sidebar → Estimating → Estimates → Create New Estimate (New on a phone). The estimate is saved to JobNimbus, attached to the job you pick, and shows up in JobNimbus right away.

Fill in the estimate

  1. Click Create New Estimate.
  2. Optional: under Templates, choose Start from a template… to fill in line items, sections, and the internal note. See Templates.
  3. Under Related Job *, click Search for a job... and type part of the job name, number, or address. Pick the job.
  4. Set Status. New estimates start as Draft.
  5. Optional: choose a Sales Rep, a Location, and an Estimate Date.
  6. Add line items (see below).
  7. Optional: add an Internal Note. Only your team sees it.
  8. Click Create Estimate.

A message confirms the new estimate number, and the list refreshes to include it. Create Estimate stays grayed out until you've picked a job and added at least one line item.

The job search looks through every job, and the note above the box says how many it's searching and how fresh the list is. If a job created a moment ago is missing, click Refresh.

Add line items

Each line item comes from your product catalog.

  1. In Item #1, click Search products... and type at least two characters of the product name or description.
  2. Pick the product. Its price, cost, and unit fill in from the catalog. A labor product fills in its labor price.
  3. Change Qty, Price, Cost, or UOM if this job needs something different. The line's Amount updates as you type.
  4. Click Add Item for the next line. Click the trash icon to remove a line.

Changing a price or cost here only affects this estimate. To change the catalog price, edit the product. See Products.

Labor and material on one line

A product whose type is labor + material fills in both parts. Its line shows Material price and Material cost, plus Labor price and Labor cost underneath. The line's Amount is Qty × (material price + labor price), and both parts are saved to JobNimbus. Changing Qty changes both.

Group items into sections

Sections are named groups such as Materials, Labor, or Gutters. They're optional, and they carry over to the estimate in JobNimbus.

  1. Under Sections, click Add Section and type a name.
  2. Check Show total if the customer should see a subtotal for that section.
  3. In each line item, choose its Section. Leave it on No section to keep it outside any group.

Items without a section are listed first. Sections with no name or no items are left off the estimate. Removing a section moves its items back to No section.

Set a target margin

Once you have line items, a summary box shows the total Cost, the Subtotal, and the Gross Margin.

Drag the Gross Margin slider, or type a percentage in the box next to it. roofingBoss reprices every line item that has a cost so each one earns that margin, then updates the subtotal. For example, a 40% margin on an item that costs $60 sets its price to $100.

  • Items with a cost of 0 keep their price.
  • On a labor + material line, the material price and the labor price are each set from their own cost.
  • The slider runs from −90% to 95%.
  • Prices are rounded to the cent, so the margin shown can differ slightly from the one you typed.

If the slider is grayed out, add at least one line item with a cost greater than 0.

Save your line items for next time

Click Save as template in the Templates box to store the current line items, sections, and internal note as a new template. The estimate itself isn't affected. See Templates.
