Bulk upload from CSV
Create or update many products at once from a CSV file, by product ID or by name across locations.
Use a CSV file to add new products or update existing ones in bulk, for example after a supplier price increase. Everything you upload is saved to JobNimbus. Start from Sidebar → Estimating → Products → Bulk Upload CSV.
The easiest way to get a correctly shaped file is to export one, edit it in a spreadsheet, and upload it again.
Prepare the file
The first row holds column names. Each row after it is one product.
| Columns | Notes |
|---|---|
| Product Name (or Name), Item Type (or Type), UOM (or Unit) | Required. Item type is material, labor, or labor+material. |
| Material Cost, Material Price, Labor Cost, Labor Price | Pricing. For material-only products you can use plain Cost and Price. |
| Product ID (jnid), Description, Active (or Is Active), Tax Exempt | Optional. Use true/false, yes/no, or 1/0 for Active and Tax Exempt. Products are active unless you say otherwise. |
Cost is what you pay. Price is what you charge.
Choose how rows match existing products
The Update Method box decides how roofingBoss finds the product each row updates.
- Name-based matching (the default, ID-Based unchecked): for each location you pick, roofingBoss looks for an active product with the same name. It updates the product if it finds one and creates a new product if it doesn't. Use this to load the same products into several locations, or when your file has no IDs.
- ID-Based (checked): each row updates the product with that Product ID, in the location it already belongs to. Use this to rename products or make precise changes. Locations aren't needed.
Upload the file
- Click Bulk Upload CSV.
- For name-based matching, open Target Locations* and check each location the products belong in.
- Check ID-Based if your file uses product IDs.
- Click Choose CSV File or Drag & Drop and pick the file, or drag it onto the box.
- Review the check results. Each row shows as Valid, Warning, or Error, with the reason under Issues. Rows with errors are skipped. Download Error Report saves the problem rows as a CSV.
- Click Back to fix the file and choose it again, or click Process … Products. With several locations, the button counts operations instead (products × locations).
- Wait for Processing Complete!. The summary shows how many rows succeeded and failed, with details for each.
If every row succeeded, the dialog closes and the product list reloads on its own. If some failed, read the details, then click Close and reload the page to see the changes that did go through.
Common warnings: a Product ID in name-based mode (the ID is ignored), or a row with no ID in ID-based mode (it's treated as a new product).
Uploads change JobNimbus right away and can't be undone in bulk. Try a small file first, and export the products you're about to change so you have a copy of the old prices.
Each change made by an upload is added to the product's history.
